Chloé Fall Winter 2011-12 Runway Make-up

Hello!! Welcome to my first make-up tutorial!

Don’t expect anything transcendental, I just came up with this on a quiet Sunday afternoon because Chloé FW 2011-2012 runway make-up really impressed me for its simplicity and depth at the same time.

It has a very 70s vibe and a warm simplicity that makes it very good for summer too and also very easy to make.

You will also need just a few products (of course the ones in the pictures are the ones I suggest, but you can use your own favorites!)

I made it a bit lighter to make it suitable for an everyday make-up, but if you prefer it darker just add more brown eyeshadow on the lower lash line and lid (especially if you have light eyes… with brown eyes like mine it tend to make them look tired)

I also used face products for both the eyes and cheeks: in this way the make-up is even more natural and it’ll look like you have a diffused light on your face.

So ready, set, go!

1) The Base

Lancaster Skin Therapy Gel-cream
Kiehl’s Line Reducing Eye Brightening Concentrate
Lancome Color Ideal foundation
MAC Studio Finish concealer
MAC Vanilla pigment

After your day cream (I also applied an under-eye cream from Kiehl’s that it’s like a miracle magic brush for small lines and dark circles), apply your foundation evenly and a concealer half a tone lighter than the foundation (under your eyes, in the dark/shadow areas of you face and on spots and/or imperfections if you have any).
Apply the MAC Vanilla pigment all over your eyelids with your finger tips (this step is important to make the whole make-up brighter and more precise. I really suggest you to buy this product: it’s the best multi-purpose ever)
Tip: mix the Vanilla pigment to your day cream: the shiny beige-y white pigment will make your skin look brighter and healthier but not sparkling or shiny. It’s like a cheaper primer (but as effective)

2) The eye color

MAC eyeshadow in “Phloof!”
MAC cream blush in “Uncommon”

Apply the MAC cream blush all over the eyelid with your fingers and blend evenly. Add the bright beige eyeshadow in the center of the eyelid to give dimensions, texture and light to the color (it doesn’t have to look white though, apply it just lightly, like in the pic)

3) The darker eye color and the depth-shadows

MAC brush 217
MAC eyeshadow in “Corduroy”
Collistar Maxi Fard Illuminante Effetto Seta n° 16

Apply all over the eyelid, with a fluffy brush like the MAC 217 (the best spent money of my like, make-up wise), your favorite bronzing powder as an eyeshadow: it will be the perfect brown for your skin-tone and it will contain just the right balance of sparkle and matte (I love this one from Collistar, an Italian brand that you can also find in other European Countries)
Add the dark brown matte eyeshadow in the corner of your eyelid, using the tip of the fluffy brush. Blend evenly in the crease of your eye: the result has to be like in the pic.
Tip: blend your eyeshadow keeping your eyes open: the natural bends of your bones and eye will lead the brush to the most perfect result (a MAC make-up artist taught me this: I’ll never thank him enough!)

4) The Liner

MAC eyeliner brush 266
MAC gel eyeliner Fluidline in “Blacktrack”
MAC eyeshadow in “Corduroy”

Line your eyes with black kohl or gel eye-liner (not the liquid one: you can’t blend it). Line the upper lid completely and the lower lid just until half. It doesn’t need to be precise.
Blend out the line with an eyeliner brush (I love the MAC angled brush 266) and the dark brown eyeshadow you used before. Now it will look precise and smoked.

5) The Lashes

MAC Zoom Lash mascara in “Zoomblack”

Add a lot of black mascara bot on upper and lower lashes.
The black Zoomlash mascara from MAC is the one used on Chloé runway (the make-up was from MAC) and is also my favorite mascara ever: 15 euros for lashes like a movie diva. I love it so much that I don’t change it since I discovered it two years ago (and I usually experiment a lot, I often don’t buy the same product twice even if I loved it… And I bought this mascara already 5 times in a row!)

6) Finish

MAC cream blush in “Uncommon”
Collistar Maxi Fard Illuminante Effetto Seta n° 16
MAC lipstick in “Beigeland”

Add the creamy blush and/or the bronzing powder on your cheeks (I used both because my bronzing powder is rose-y and bright) and finish with a neutral bright lipstick (you can’t see it from the picture but this one is a frost pink-ish beige, it’s really nice).

And if you really want to re-create the runway look add fake freckles, like the MAC make-up artists did! So fresh, so 70s!

And that’s it! I didn’t show you my full face because I’m still too shy, sorry! :-p

So now I want your impressions: did you like it? Did you find it useful? Would you like me to change something in my next tutorial?

If you enjoyed I’ll surely do another one… Would you prefer a natural everyday look or a night-out more dramatic look?

Let me know!

Good night! Kisses!

Al

Good job Al! i love the fake freckles part! ;))
Surely i want another one! personnally i prefer an everyday look for your next tutorial …

    A big kiss!

i loooove your tutorial. especially this look – it’s exactly what i want to wear every day. that’s why – if i buy eye shadows (which i don’t like to do, because i don’t like the colours that apparently suit me) – i keep on buying brown/beige/rose/ tones, which actually don’t suit my brown eyes. as you wrote: brown tends to make brown eyes look tired (or worse: dirty). but your tutorial gave me hope. i think the right foundation is important. will try it step by step with my new brown-ish colour palette. :) looking forward to your next tutorial (i would love to see another everyday look – to me it seems to be much more difficult than an evening look!)

    al, you’re such a beauty – don’t be shy! :)

    xoxoxo

Thank you so much my dear!

For the brown eyes thing: you’ve got to wear it in the right way and the right tone, unluckily we have to be careful with these kind of colors.
I wear brown almost everyday and it suits me, but I know I have to avoid some styles and some shades. I think that for you a cold dark brown (not reddish) with some bright beige eyeshadow in the light points of the eyes (inner conner, in the middle of the eyelid and in the center of the lower lashline) would be the best. And with some browns I’m very careful on the concealer (it has to be a bit lighter than the foundation and well applied) and the bright base/primer. Also, a good bright, pink-peachy blush will make the whole look fresher!

And sure I’ll do another everyday makeup tutorial, also Gigi told me she prefers that one! ;-)

      Love and kisses :D

  4. i absolutely love it! great tutorial! And the freckels are adorable:) But i don’t think i would add fake freckels to my make up..:)

  5. Al says:

    Thank you so much!!
I wouldn’t do it either, the freckles thing (but I have some naturally, just need to wait for some sun!) but I think it was a very nice idea for the runway :D
    a kiss

  6. Anna says:

First of all I have to tell you that your illustration has the most beautiful blue eyes I’ve ever seen!!
Nice choice of colors for a make up tutorial! Chloe also did brown-ish make up for their Spring-Summer 2010 show and I had cut the picture of the magazine and went to a cosmetics store to get similar colors of eye shadows (again the make up was from MAC, but I didn’t go to a MAC store…I ended up taking Chanel eye shadows)
I’ll definitely try the bronzing powder as eye shadow…and I think you just persuaded me to get gel black eyeliner. I have a liquid one and it is so hard to use! (I want to emulate Alexa Chung, with questionable results)!

    Love,
    Anna

    • Al says:

      Thank you so much Anna!!!
Believe me, the gel eyeliner changes your life: with the liquid I was never able to make very straight lines and it never gave a good result. Instead, if you use this brush and the gel formula the control is much better and you can choose to have thick lines or thin lines, defined or smoked and so on. It costs a bit (I think it was 16 for the eyeliner and about 20 for the brush…) but they last a lifetime. It’s already two years I have that pot, it’s really worth it. I suggest you the MAC ones (quality/price ratio is way better than other brands)

      kiss :-)
