Ok, the MarnixH&M craziness hit Al too. Did you doubt it?
I wasn’t supposed to buy anything since I wanted only accessories and I couldn’t spend the night/morning in line in front of the H&M store in Antwerp. I knew I couldn’t have them, and I had the confirmation when, at 9 AM, I heard that ALL the accessories were sold out.
Marni x H&M bracelets
So I worked the whole day, went home, I cooked and ate my dinner and went to bed forcedly in peace, knowing that my chance to get some Marni necklace at a ridicolous price was gone.
The day after, I arrive at work and my colleague Anouk shows me H&M Netherlands website: still a lot of clothes and even a few accessories.
Hold on, we have to place an order.
Oh no, they deliver only in Holland!
Wait! My boyfriend DOES live in Holland!

“OMG! Anouk! Start to make an account!”
“Take your credit caaaarrrrdd”
“I want that! No, wait, I want that! Oh the other one too!!”
“Take this for meeeee”

Marni x H&M bracelets
And so it ended with me having the amazing bracelets (I swear I didn’t spend a day without them at my arm from the day after their arrival), the earrings (worn them just once at a party because they’re quite bold, hence suited for evenings. Only problem: they’re clip earrings so after 3 hours my earlobes were destroyed, But they really look great so it was OK to suffer :D) and that bag…
Marni x H&M bag (Men collection)
Oh that bag. I love it!
I’m really a bag person but what happens if you’re a true bag person? That until 20-23 years old you’re OK with cheaper bags that look fine but when you’re older (LOL said like this sounds like I’m 40) you just want that Céline or that Givenchy. Nothing less.
So you end up with no bags because you’re not OK with the cheaper ones but you’ll never be able to afford the “top class” ones
*and you end up being quite snob and blind too only dreaming of those bags because nice bags that don’t cost a fortune DO exist. My mom bought me for Christmas a very nice one, great quality, in a very soft leather, I know she didn’t pay it much and I wore it the whole winter… But me? I don’t even look to find good but cheaper ones because a giant Céline Box Bag image obscures my brains. Bah.*
So all of this to say that the Marni x H&M bag (from the Men collection actually) made me fall in love with her. Top quality, good leather panels, nice simple shape (I so wanted a simple, big tote!), neutral colors and super friendly price.
It’s so big and handy that I stuff my whole world in it (proof below) and it’s still half-empty (but weights 4580 kilos, not the fault of the bag but mine carrying my life in it)
This is what was inside my bag on Friday (from top left clockwise):
water, chewing gums, a book (heavyy!!), 2nd camera lens, iPod and Urbanears headphones (they’re the best), keys, one of my favourite blushes (from Shiseido), my beloved Mameshiba coin purse that I bought in Japan, business card holder (you can’t see it but there are birds on it. Too cute), a big purse with a sketchbook and some pencils and pens, a cotton scarf, my storage.it notebook (genius) and the Amsterdam city guide (I was in Amsterdam that day), Vogue Netherlands (first issue! Welcome in the Vogue world!). My reflex camera was also in it (super heavy!!) and the wallet (that was in my jacket at the moment of the photo). Do you agree with the 4580 kilos?
And doesn’t it go perfectly with my blue brogues?
Marc by Marc Jacobs shoes
One thing though leaves me with a bitter flavour in my mouth: I own a main line Marni necklace (that I paid quite a lot) and the quality and materials are exactly the same used for the Marni x H&M accessories (I had the chance to see also a necklace in H&M Amsterdam, but unluckily it was the only one I didn’t like from the collection :( so I didn’t buy it).
So which one is the real price, the one that reflects the quality, materials and the craft behind it? The three figures or the 19.90 € price tag?
I think I know the answer, and it kinda make me angry because again, like 99% of the times, the price of fashion is utterly not related to the quality or the materials used to create a piece of clothing or an accessory (thinking for example of fake leather Stella bags that cost more than 1000 euros or the very-often-quoted-by-me Margiela sneakers…)
Anyway, let’s not think about it or I’ll write another 3000 words only for this topic.
