Style lab look 1
There couldn’t be any better name: Style Lab.
This is how are called the main activities at Firenze4Ever, a huge event with worldwide bloggers, designers and emerging talents, press and lots of fashion organized every season by the Florence mega store Luisa Via Roma.
I am used to work in a lab every day and of course this is completely different but the mood is that: inventing, playing, creating, working.
With style and fashion this time.
It was my first time ever not only at such an event (I have too many things to tell you, it was insane!!) but it was also my very first time to do a shooting like this.
I still can’t believe it… I had a model, I could choose her hairstyle, her make-up, style her (with three different looks!) and photograph her!
It’s kinda living the editorial process from A to Z, I think I was the only blogger who did this 100% thing (most of them where wearing the outfits or, if they were styling a model, had a different photographer) and in fact in the end I was so exhausted that I almost fainted at the Madonna concert (seriously)
Style lab look 2
Each of us had an assistant for the style lab, and this is something that made me go mental in the first place. I’m totally not used to be assisted and helped, really, it was a miracle that in the end it wasn’t me assisting her…
But I was super lucky because she was actually a stylist and we had the same tastes so we worked like a machine!
( She is called Soultana, we became friends and I really have to show you a pic of her!)
You should have seen us… Running around like crazy choosing the items and dressing the model (Alena, isn’t she super gorgeous?) so quickly that her head was spinning and bam! out in the heat hunting the perfect location for my shoots…
The best moment? When we “stole” a bike from its place to use it in our photos… I’m so glad the owner didn’t arrive before we were finished (Florence people can be veeery angry)…
Style lab look 3
And you should have seen all the men asking me if they could take pics with the model! Ahhh Italians…
I leave you with these three images of the three looks I styled and photographed.
I decided to do three different things: a classy, ladylike outfit but with a twist; a super modern almost futuristic look and a preppy, kind of precious style.
What say you, like them?
In the coming days I’ll show you all the pics for all the looks (and tell you what happened and why I chose them), one per day!
Many kisses!!
Al
In all the photos:
Styling: Alessia Landi and Soultana Papaioannou
Photos: Alessia Landi
Model: Alena Kulagina
Hair: Aveda
Make-up: Make Up Forever

Wow Al these are simply beautiful :O
I can’t believe this was your first time doing this the images are fantastic in every aspect.
I never have the confidence to photograph people, direct them into positions tell them what to do, which is why i only ever photograph macro and landscape i guess. This is probably holding me back quite a bit but reading this and seeing your results is rather inspirational.
Sooooo how many talents do you have now i’ve lost count uhm

have you ever contemplated ruling the world?
Hope to see more of this in future Al because its epic.

ahahah you know what Adam, I’ll print this comment and put it on my mirror: it will be my new self-confidence boost when I feel down :D
I think everyone has their own favorite subjects… I love shooting people and sometimes macro, for example. With landscapes I feel that I can’t express very well myself, even though I’d love to…
I don’t know if I’ll ever have another chance to style and shoot a model :D but it was one of the greatest experiences of my life!
kisses
Amica queste foto sono S-T-U-P-E-N-D-E!!!!
Non aggiungo altro :-D
Grazie tesora!!
Devo dire qualcosa???STUPENDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Il terzo look è fantastico e le foto sono splendide. Non vedo ora di sapere tutto (anche gossip chiaro!!!!)))). Go zia!
Grazieeee!!!! <3
Per il gossip FB chat :D
you & me = zia power forever xxx
I love your photos! They turned out really really nice (the Tuscan sunny weather surely helps)!! Soooo, I’ve already told you I love the first one (I don’t know, the colors did the trick for me), but all 3 of them are great! I like the fact that you played with the focus at the second one as well as the bike concept in the last one! It’s good that the owner didn’t appear earlier!
Can wait for more photos of the event! Ooh and I forgot! You met one of my favorite bloggers (style wise) Aimee Song! :)
Thank you!! Indeed the light helped, you can se the difference in the shadow photos already!
You’ll see more of them in the next posts, I’ll also add the details of the outfits ;)
Aimee is supersweet!
kisses
Wow, these are soooo gorgeous! I like the styling, arrangement (not sure if this is the correct word) and the quality of the pictures!!! So beautiful! And what an experience! Did you use your own camera (also for the street style pictures)? If so, do you use f. 1,8? Because the background is so superblurry. I haven’t used mine (I’ve got it too by now, thanks for the advice! :) ) for street style or just any full body images yet, isn’t it very likely that only parts of the person will be sharp? Sorry for bothering with technical stuff again!
The street style pictures are also really really great, congrats on being on elle uk! What a feeling, I guess! I can’t wait to see more, especially on genuine Florence style!
Good night and many kisses!
Thank youuu!!! :D
I always used my camera, indeed I’m quite surprised of what my superbasic model can do if used with the right light (ahhh Italy!)
I always used f/1.8 but I hear you: it’s very difficult to keep the subject sharp and most of the times I don’t have good pics. What I can suggest you is to practice a lot with that lens, you’ll see that you will have to pay special attention to the distance from the subject and other details. Also, it’s quite impossible to take candids with that aperture, your subjects need to stay still (and you as well)
Moreover, use the multiple shots function: one over 10 shots is usually good :D
Anyway it’s a lens that requests time… I mean that you have to think about your shot, position the elements in the good way, find the good distance from the subject… But boy, when the shots are good they’re VERY good! And I like this more relaxed way of photographing, reminds me of drawing! :D
But I would never use it for things like fashion shows, I just bought a very good Tamron lens to replace my kit lens for that. It’s a f/2.8 17-50 mm and I paid it 300 euros (the equivalent of canon costs 900…) and it won the best lens prize of 2008. It has amazing reviews, if you’re looking for a good zoom lens on a budget I suggest you to check it out (on amazon, in the stores it’s more expensive)
Anyway, with the 50 mm lens you get a good blurry background also with f/2.8 (and the pic is still really full of light)
Try some more and let me know, I’m always happy to discuss technical stuff with you! xxx
really nice photos and looks. Especially the last one.
Gorgeous!
Good job girl!
