And here I present you with veeery much pride :D the first look I styled and photographed at Firenze4Ever
It’s actually the second we did, but I wanted to show you this one first because it’s probably the one I’m the most happy of.
I think it’s because it is so far from my own style: I had an image in my mind when I saw that dress from Riis and I’m glad I built it on my model even though I had to really abstract from my own clothing comfort zone and typical taste.
I love linear, geometric shapes but I naver pushed this taste to these hyper-modern quasi futuristic extents!
We started to shoot in Piazza Duomo but it wasn’t quite right, the light was too strong and there were too many people. So I decided to try to place Alena, the model, inside the very old terrace of a building just next to the Battistero.
There was this grid that looked perfect and I started to shoot, but still something was missing.
And there Soultana had the real stroke of genius: she closed the gates of the terrace in front of me and said “can you play with the focus like this?”
And this is how the pics came out… She had a great idea, didn’t she?
Oh and Riis, Stine Riis… she’s an emerging Swedish designer that I actually never heard of before but I fell in love immediately with her style (indeed half of the things I used in my shootings are from her!)
She is also one of the emerging designers featured in the video created by Nowness and promoted by Mercedes Benz.
It’s the very first time that Mercedes-Benz promotes young and emerging talents so intensively and I’m very happy about it. It’s always so difficult for new designers to show their work to a large audience, fashion is a very difficult world to conquer, and it’s a pity that too often their talent gets wasted.
So a big thank you to Mercedes, it was about time! ahah
And I really hope that they will keep this trend and that other big companies will take it up as well…
If you want more info about Stine Riis visit her website, while if you want to see all the other designers participating in the project have a look here (you find some interviews in the posts called “technicolor dream”)
And oh, that cool girl in the video is Mimi Xu/Misty Rabbit, who was also our DJ at the final party… I couldn’t take a picture of her and I’m still beating my hands for this grrrr
