La mia mano. Lo smalto è Essie “Limited Addiction”
… nel farmi la manicure.
Ebbene si’, dopo mesi di esercizio, scoperta di attrezzi e creme, mancanza di soldi per l’estetista e una buona dose di fanatismo sto migliorando.
Devo dire di essere migliorata drasticamente quando, dopo essermi fatta venire gli occhi rossi a forza di fissare le mani di modelle e ragazze della moda cercando di rubare loro il segreto della perfetta manicure (che non sia “una buona estetista” ovviamente), ho capito una cosa: il segreto sta nei dettagli.
Se state attente ai dettagli le vostre mani saranno semplicemente perfette.
E questi sono i dettagli che hanno fatto della mia manicure qualcosa di cui essere felice:
1) La pelle intorno all’unghia è più importante delle condizioni dello smalto per l’aspetto delle mani. Deve essere perfettamente liscia e priva di cuticole
2) Per mantenere le mani, le unghie e la pelle intorno ad esse morbida e liscia usate sempre una buona crema idratante (la crema mani Avène è un piccolo miracolo, oltre ad essere caratterizzata da una texture piacevolissima e un ottimo odore. Si trova in farmacia) e un olio (a me piacciono olio di mandorle o argan) per ammorbidire e nutrire l’area intorno alle unghie (questo previene anche la formazione delle nuove cuticole)

3) Gli attrezzi sono importantissimi: la scoperta dello spingi-cuticole/pulisci-unghie e il taglia-cuticole Tools are the most important thing: discovering the cuticle pusher/nail cleaner and the cuticle trimmer ha cambiato le mie unghie
4) Preferite attrezzi di ottima qualità, fanno davvero la differenza. Tweezerman è la mia marca preferita e se non vi va di spendere troppo per gli strumenti standard hanno anche dei ottimi formato viaggio che costano molto meno (come il kit che ho io, che funziona alla perfezione)
5) Preferite un taglia unghie alle forbici: sono più precise per tagliare le unghie della mano destra (o della sinistra se siete mancine) e il taglio netto rende più difficile lo sfaldamento delle unghie
6) Guardate le vostre unghie “da davanti” quando le limate o usate uno specchio: la forma sarà perfetta.
7) Una lima lunga dà più controllo sulla forma. Spesso anche le lime molto economiche sono piuttosto buone (la mia è costata 1.50 euro e va benissimo)

8) Applicate sempre uno strato sottile di smalto, meglio due strati sottili che uno spesso: ha un aspetto migliore, più preciso, liscio, si asciuga meglio e dura il doppio
9) Non toccate mai la pelle intorno all’unghia con lo smalto e non “riempite” mai tutta l’unghia di smalto, lasciate sempre un millimetro tra il colore e la pelle altrimenti l’effetto sarà sporco e poco preciso.
10) Applicate una goccia di olio sulle cuticole e massaggiate, dopo aver finito con lo smalto: farà sembrare il tutto ancora più liscio e brillante
E un piccolo extra:
Marche di smalto: Essie per l’applicazione a strato sottile perfetto, la scelta di colori e il fatto di essere 3-free.
Gli smalti Maybelline Forever Strong durano una vita (tipo dai 5 agli 8 giorni!).
KIKO fa gli smalti economici migliori (alcuni colori durano fino a 7 giorni!)
E diciamocelo: gli smalti Chanel fanno pena. Certo, i colori sono unici, ma si trovano sempre copie accettabili. Triste, ma vero (se pero’ conoscete un bel colore Chanel che dura più di tre giorni ditemelo che lo provo sicuro!)
E questo è quanto per adesso.
Ma se volete sapere di più, basta chiedere! (ovviamente se conosco la risposta… Sto cercando di raggiungere il livello “dea della manicure”, quando ci arrivero’ potrete chiedermi davvero tutto quello che volete su unghie & co.!)

But only two or three months ago I wasn’t really good with manicure either, but since I really like to wear nail-polish I got to practice extensively :D
The trick is: go to the salon once and observe the girl + watch youtube tutorials + admire the perfect nails of the models and fashion girls everyday to fix your target = you’ll get there! XD

Yes, DIY manicures! I too, can’t see the point of going for manicures when I can just do them myself at home!
And yup, just a little trim around the cuticles and nails will make manicures look so much better!
I still se much more point in pedicures than manicures, but also in this case I get it only once in the beginning of summer and then I keep them myself.
Cuticles are the devil, I tell you! XD

I am all about DIY manicures, I’ve been getting them all my life! I got better the last 3 years though because I started going to nail salons every now and then. I and I watched what the lady did. So I got some tools (like the cuticle pusher), got a base and a top coat and I’ve become better. I have 2 problems though: 1)not having cuticles all over the place (I guess your oil tip helps, I have some nail oil but I’m usually to lazy/forgetful to use it) 2) starting painting the nail very close to the cuticles (I guess the half moon manicure would be appropriate for me since I always leave some milimeters space between the cuticles and the nail polish!!)
You told me :-) But we’re quite alike, I also was very into my nails also years ago, but I was less skilled (also because at the time I’d never seen a real pro manicure)
Oil helps a lot for cuticles indeed. In the beginning you’ll still see irregularities after pushing and trimming but after some time you’ll see that you almost don’t need to trim anymore. The oil constantly hydrates and therefore prevents the formation of new cuticles (I use it almost every day)

i’ve never did anything with/for my nails, then i moved to dubai where mani/pedis are so good and affordable and a MUST, too. so if i leave dubai i think i have to go back to my ugly unpolished nails, cause i’m so terribly clumsy! :(
But I so love your nails!! I’ve seen them many times in your post and they’re actually among my models “for a better manicure”, seriously :-p
If here in Belgium beauty salons were a little cheaper (and also better, let’s say it) I would go more often but frankly it really relaxes me a lot to do this kind of things… Also wax, I love to wax my skin! I bought the professional one in Italy and now I’m waxing as a way to spend my free time ahahah

You gave ome very good tips here Al! This is pretty much how I do my own manicure, even with short nails I never skip the cuticle care, it’s very important.
I have tried loads of files through the years and I have found the BEST one to be by Fingrs:

It comes with 4 different surfaces, not the polish/file/shine ones, all of them are rouch but with 4 levels of “roughness”: it’s really great!! And you aso get a smaller one to carry around :)
I saw these 4-surfaces-files!! I was wondering how they are (like, if they’re comfortable to use) and now that you suggest them I’ll try them for sure! Also Tweezerman makes them but I have to check how much they cost (never seen fingrs in Belgium unluckily :( )

This one costs around 4 euros and it lasts really long.
Just as I said be careful not to buy the one with 4 surfaces where one is smooth, one is sandy, one is fabric…
these 4 surfaces are all “sandpapery”. It is very comfrtable to use, I use the hardest one (blue) to shorten nails, the light-blue one to define the shape, the dark-pink one to take away the nail-dust from the tip of the nail, and the light-pink one to smoothen the surface of the nail sometimes, like after I have worn fake nails to take away the glue.
