The Red Dot per Reiss – parte I

Successe perchè ero totalmente indisciplinata e litigai … Continue reading

“Se io avessi un mondo come piace a me…”

“Se io avessi un mondo come piace a me, là tutto sarebbe assurdo: niente sarebbe com’è, perché tutto sarebbe come non è, e viceversa! Ciò che è, non sarebbe e ciò che non è, sarebbe!” — “Ma io non voglio … Continue reading

Fly high

(English) There is something I never told you, probably because I feared to sound even more nerd than usual, but today I’ll have to reveal it: I am an airplane geek.
I’m obsessed with anything connected to flying: the airports, the engineering of the planes (yes, you heard correctly *geek alert*), the physical principle of the flight (*geek alert n° 2*), the stewardesses (to me they’re like Wonderwoman), the pilots and the cockpit (the equivalent in my mind of Batman and the Batcave). I’m even a member of an aviation forum! (*geek alert n° 3*)
(Of course, as any good obsession, I’m also phobic: I’m scared to death to fly but I love it at the same time… So I do fly and every time the excitement mixed with fear pumps my adrenaline to the stars… Oh boy, I do sound crazy right?)
Anyway, this just to tell you that even though I never go to press events, when Brussels Airlines (the national Belgian airline and one of the major European air companies) asked me to participate to the presentation of the uniforms for the brand new Brussels-New York JFK flights I jumped on my chair: how could I not go??
I mean:
- Stewardesses (Wonderwoman) CHECK
- Pilots (Batman = the best superhero) CHECK
- Uniforms and air glamour CHECK
- Location = Airport (constant planes in take-off to admire) CHECK
All together! Air madness…
Skipping all the excitement to be there (thank you Kim!) or this will be a 30 pages-long post, I’d like to tell you how much I truly liked the new uniforms.
They’re so elegant and original! The designers of the collection, which is made by the Belgian designers Xandres (for women) and Bellerose (for men), said that they wanted to recall the glam era of aviation but they wanted the uniforms to also be modern and functional at the same time.
They totally succeeded: the dresses are hyper-feminine and elegant, the hats are simply perfect (isn’t that hat style gorgeously vintage-inspired and totally flattering?) and the final touches are really good: the red trench coat for example, is a stroke of fashion genius and originality for an air stewardess uniform.
And what is the main color? Red!! Come on, need I say more?
Another thing I loved at the uniform presentation was the mood: all the models were really part of the Brussels Airlines crew and they all seemed so genuinely happy to represent their company and its new very important flight route to JFK at this event.
Their smiles were all beautiful and sincere and there is nothing more wonderful than seeing people that are happy and proud of their jobs.
And I mean, they’re going to New York! So glam… It has always been a dream destination for me, together with Japan, but never managed to go there. Want a proof? At 6 years old I was already drawing the New York skyline compulsively (and was dreaming to become an air stewardess):
If this is not passion…
New York, we’ll meet one day… Maybe thanks to a Brussels Airlines flight? ;-)

Thanks to Kim Daenens of Brussels Airlines for inviting me to the event!
